The minor fruit crop – sea buckthorn, has been characterized the leaves, berries, bark of which is a valuable source of a number of important biologically active substances. This crop fruits in addition to ascorbic acid, have appeared to contain also the vitamins E (140 mg), A (60 mg), B1, B2, B4, B6, B8, B9, K, P, PP, as well as more than 8 % fatty oil, consisting of the oleic, stearic and palmitic acids, glycerides as well as sugars, volatiles, micro elements. In this connection, 100 g of fruits meet excessively the daily requirement of a man of many biologically active substances. The information has been presented concerning the distribution, use of the breeding peculiarities and of its cultivation technology elements, which, being put on the industrial basis, has great prospects from the view point of the soil and climatic conditions in Ukraine, labour potential, breeding achievements, inland and foreign experience. The authors have payid attention to the sea buckthorn plants genetic resources depletion problems, which complicates the breeding work on the creation of new cultivars adapted to the modern natural conditions, technological and economic requirements. The paper states that since 2017, the active innovative work on breeding and technology of sea buckthorn growing has been continued at the Institute of Horticulture (NAAS of Ukraine). This work requires the development and implementation of advanced breeding achievements, such as high yield, large fruited ness and dry berry and easy separation, vitamins large number in the fruits of oils and other biologically active substances, resistance to pests and diseases, different ripening terms and fruits purpose – both dessert, technological and universal, as well as mechanized harvesting, high transportability and efficient processing.
Key words: sea buckthorn, raw material resource, healthy nutrition, breeding program, technological characteristics of cultivation.
