The authors have presented the results of studying of the effect of the sweet cherry orchards constructions on the fruits quality and the economic efficiency of the growing technology.
The researches were conducted in 2014-2017 in the sweet cherry orchard (the cultivar Krupnoplidna) on the own-rooted rootstock VSL-2 and on the mahaleb cherry seedlings with the dwelling intercalary of the clones VSL-2 and Gisela 5 (hereinafter - mahaleb cherry/VSL-2 and mahaleb cherry/Gizela 5 respectively) with the orbicular small crown shape, 2006 the orchard being planted in 2006. The intercalary was 20 cm.
The experiment was established at the Experimental Farm ‘Melitopol’ of the Institute Horticulture of the NAAS on the dark chestnut weakly alkaline soil. The climate of the territory is temperate continental. The irrigation is absent. The agrotechnical measures in the orchard are generally accepted in the Lisosteppe of Ukraine. The varients repetition is seven-folded, one tree per repetition.
During the investigation period, the yield of the orchards where the trees were inoculated with VSL-2 appeared by 34 % lower than when using the intercalaries.
The treatments with the intercalaries Giselle 5 (the planting plan is 5x3) and VSL-2 (5x4 m) were characterized by the highest yield in experiments (7.7 and 7.0 t/ha) and concerning this index exceeded the control by 1.6 and 1.5, respectively. times respectively. This testifies the better adaptation of the orchards with the intercalaries to the arid conditions of the Ukraine’s Southern Steppe. This is probably due to the deeper penetration mahaleb cherry root system into the soil. This intercalary was used as the main rootstock in the given variants.
As a result of theexplorations the orchards constructions with mahaleb cherry/Gizela 5 (5x3 m) and mahaleb cherry/VSL-2 (5x4 m) distinguished themselves for complex of the productivity indicators, fruit quality and economic efficiency. Those orchards achieved a net profit of 122.7 and 110.3 thousand UAH/ha respectively that is by 2.0 and 1.8 times respectively higher than in the control, and the profitability level is 133.4 and 128.2 % respectively.
